Plastic-Free Fall at Spinster Sisters

Happy Autumn Equinox to all my friends!

We have had absolutely the best summer at Spinster Sisters and I am so proud of all we have accomplished... but I have to say I am looking forward to sweater weather and cozy Fall days. It was a busy summer at the Microsoapery and I’m excited to catch you up on what we’ve been up to!

In case you are not aware, we have a renewed mission at Spinster Sisters to be plastic-free in 2024. This is no small undertaking and I am excited about the progress we have made so far. We launched our Free From line in November of 2021 and we are grateful that you have all embraced this new water-free and plastic-free line of face, hair, and body care bars.

In June of this year, the Free From line was 90% of our sales just 7 months in! I absolutely love that you are helping us choose Planet Over Plastic™ and make smarter more sustainable choices. This product line includes facial care bars, shampoo + conditioner bars, deodorant bars, body butter bars, and scrub bars—all in zero waste packaging!

This is in addition to our already plastic-free bar soap and the biodegradable wrap we use to package our bath bombs and shower steamers. Makes me proud to know that you all are my people.

The challenging part of going plastic-free is that there are some products that we will no longer be able to offer. Some products will be retired for a season as we redesign the packaging and others may be archived fully. I know that is frustrating, but please stick with us. Our hearts and our mission are in the right place. It’s a lot of work to achieve being plastic-free and we appreciate your loyalty & patience as we make progress. If you haven’t tried our Free From line—please give them a shot.

I’ll hedge my bets you may like the product line even more than our original products! For example, most lotions are 70%+ water - our Body Butter Bars are 100% pure, moisturizing powerhouses with fair-trade shea butter and fair-trade cocoa butter as the base - but undiluted by water or other carrier ingredients. It is the most moisturized you will ever feel in dry, winter weather.

We also achieved our Plastic Negative Certification in partnership with RePurpose Global, strengthening our commitment to sustainability. For every ounce of plastic that comes into, or out of, our Microsoapery, we are offsetting 2 ounces of ocean waste plastic collection through support of a rePurpose Global’s Project Neela Sapana in Chennai, India. While we can control our business’s plastic usage we are unable to control the plastic that comes into our facility from our vendors & supplies and by offsetting we can help make strides for a plastic-free world.

We have had a fun and exciting summer of innovation at the Microsoapery. Creating new products, repackaging existing products in new packaging and rebranding a few product lines too! Our products are still the same with premium plant-based formulations but the look of a few lines may have changed! If you see any of new branding in the wild be sure to snap a photo and tag us @SpinsterSistersCo! In case you missed it, we launched our new exfoliators back in July… a luxurious Coffee Scrub Bar + Eucalyptus Mint Salt Scrub Bar! These scrub bars smell amazing, exfoliate away dead & dry skin, and lock in hydration with moisturizing shea and cocoa butter. This summer we also launched Dry Shampoo in 100% biodegradable paperboard tubes–––tinted with natural colorants for Light, Dark, and even Red Hair. Peace out, aerosol!

Our distribution has grown a lot too and we’re proud that you can now buy Spinster Sisters nationwide, on our website, and at some incredible digital retailers who share our mission of sustainability… like Grove Collaborative! Our entire Free From line is in stock now! We are excited to partner with Grove to build a future with less plastic.

You’ll also be able to find Spinster Sisters at more Kroger stores this Fall. We are rolling out to King Soopers & City Markets in Colorado and if you’re in Chicago and Wisconsin find us on shelf at Roundy’s and Mariano’s. In the Pacific Northwest we’ll be stocked at Fred Meyer and QFC stores. We are so grateful for our tribe in Colorado who helped make our launch at King Soopers such a success that Kroger invited us to expand in these new markets! I can’t wait to share more new retail partners with you soon!
